Filming Blog

Image
I began to film my music video on November 24th and I have not finished filming yet. I already filmed the first nine scenes of my video. On the first day that I started recording (November 24th) I recorded the first six scenes. The next day (November 25th) I recorded the seventh, eighth, and ninth scene. I did not film the last three scenes yet because there was a change of plans. Unfortunately, one of my backup dancers got sick before our scheduled meet-up. As a result I began to think of ways that I could make this work just in case if she does not get better by this week. I thought of using this filming app called TikTok and use this “clone trio” effect on the app that shows three clones of yourself in a video. This could have solved my problem and guarantee synchronization between me and the back up dancers. But whenever you save a video off of this app it says TikTok and your username in the corner of the video. Prior to filming any of these scenes I had to go watch the original m...

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
First Scene: In the first scene, I will sit on the ground with one knee up and my face turned towards the camera. I will be wearing my first costume where my hat will be titled sideways on my head. Second Scene: At all the start of this next scene I will stand still while the camera tilts up. Then I will begin to walk towards the camera while the camera moves backward. I will be wearing the first outfit standing up but without the hat. Third Scene: In the third scene, I will be dancing in second outfit. Fourth Scene: In this scene, I will be wearing the second outfit with my umbrella opened to the side. I will try to make this scene shorter so that I can give another scene a few more seconds. Fifth Scene: In the fifth scene, I will be dance with the umbrella in hand maybe like up in the air. Sixth Scene: In this scene, I will have a short close up clip of my face while lip syncing the lyrics. This scene will be in black and white. Seventh Scene: In the seventh scene, I will walk into t...

Planning for my Music Video

Song Title: The title of the song I will use in my project is “Umbrella” by Rihanna featuring Jay-Z. Props: The only prop I will use in my video is an umbrella. Costumes: The lead who will play Rihanna will wear three different outfits. The first outfit will include a black hat and a black one piece. The second outfit will include a sparkle/sequin/glitter top and black bottoms. The third outfit will include a white tank top, a mint green tie and white bottoms. The backup dancers will all wear black hoodies/jackets and black bottoms. Schedule: I will have completed my intro blog by 11/13/20. I will research conventions of pop style music videos by 11/17/20. I will establish the song title, props, costumes, schedule, location, and a backup plan by 11/17/20. I will create a storyboard (12 boxes) for my commercial by 11/20/20. I will explain what I did during the filming process and what I encountered by 11/30/20. I will complete either a filming or editing blog by 12/3/20. I will ex...

Research blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
The song “Umbrella” by Rihanna featuring Jay-Z is a pop song. Conventions in pop style music videos include choreography, back-up dancers, costumes, lip-syncing, hair and makeup, location/setting, colors, lighting, props, and style. Pop style music videos often have choreographed dances and a lot of the time include back-up dancers. Costumes are also commonly used in pop style music videos, where both the artist(s) and back-up dancers are dressed in different costumes. Often times the artist(s) and their backup dancers wear more than one outfit in the video. A majority of the time artist(s) do not wear the same costume as their backup dancers. The back up dancers tend to wear matching costumes or similar costumes that match in color, print, or design. Artists often lip sync on set when recording the video and put the song over the video when editing. Artists and their backup dancers always have their hair and makeup done for their music videos, the hair and make up represents the styl...

I will work independently on this project. I chose to work by myself because I would not want to partner up with someone or join a group and have to rely on them to do their part. Working with partners can be difficult, because everyone will not always agree with one another. In some cases, small disagreements between the group can negatively affect the entire project. Also, it would be difficult to film with a group because I am still at home e-learning. I would not feel comfortable meeting with a partner or a group to film because of how easily coronavirus can spread. In addition, since the beginning of the school year I have been learning online at home and I have not made any new connections with my classmates. So I do not know how reliable or unreliable my peers are therefore I would rather take the safe bet and work independently. Working alone gives me more creative space and I don’t have to worry about who will agree with my idea or not. This is a one minute music video that I...

Critical Reflection Questions

Image
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? Conventions are used all throughout my commercial. I included a comparison between leading value brand diapers and Pampers diapers in my commercial, as a visual demonstration. This helped emphasize how much more pampers absorb and how much drier Pampers are compared to the leading value brand. Diapers that are absorbent and dry are an ideal choice for parents when regarding their children. Another convention included in my commercial were Pampers diapers. Including Pampers in my commercial was not optional, especially since the product I was promoting in the commercial where Pampers. Also, I used a baby in the commercial. The baby was modeling the product, Pampers diaper, while sleeping. The Pampers’ slogan “love sleep & play” is also included at the end of the commercial. 2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? My co...

My Commercial

Image
This was my first time making a commercial. After rewatching my video, I realized that there are many ways that I could have improved my project. For example, I could have added another short video of the baby sleeping but from the side view of a crib. Another example, if I could have given the mom a line to say after the baby started crying. Also, I could have shortened the clip that showed the screenshot of the diapers. I could have probably included the clip of the crib from a side view in place of the screenshot. I also could have probably been more specific in my other blogs about the specific Pampers I was focusing on. This project definitely taught me a lot of new skills. I learned a lot more about iMovie and how it works. For example, I learned how to add sound to my video if the sound is from YouTube and how to cut it to fit in the video. This project really helped me think outside the box and brought out a lot of my creativity. I learned a lot about conventions and how to pla...

Editing Blog: Making My Commercial 30 seconds

Image
After filming all my scenes, I had to sit down and narrow down what scenes I was actually going to include and not include. When I finished choosing what videos were going to be included I went ahead and inserted all my clips in iMovie. Once I had my clips placed in the correct order my video was a total of 48 seconds long. So I had to go back and condense the clips I used so that they would fit the 30 seconds time mark. First, I went into my camera roll and edited my videos straight from there. Afterwards, I reinserted the videos in their previous order after they were edited. After doing this my entire commercial altogether was still a little long. So I went back and took a look at the clips that I had that I decided not to use and tried using some of those instead. I replaced the second and fifth scene with a different video. The videos I chose not to use were not bad but I chose not to use them at first because I thought they would be short but I ended up using like two of the scen...
