Title Research: Get Out

The titles displayed during the opening sequence include the name of the studio and production company. Next the film displays the actor names, film title, casting by, music by, costume designer, edited by, production designer, and director of photography title. The next titles shown are the produced by, executive producers, written by, and directed by titles. Images prioritized in the opening sequence include a road with cars parked on the sides of the road. The image of woods near a road was also prioritized. Then a photo of a woman’s pregnant belly halfway exposed in a tank top show in black and white.  Then there’s an image of a viscous dog being held on a leash in black and white. There were also images of a modern living room space along with kitchen inside in an apartment. The first image with the parked cars on the side of the road may symbolize the that the area of neighborhood that will be shown in the film may be a little small and crowded. I assume this because there aren’t any visible parking lots. The images of the woods is probably to show where some important or scary events may take place in the movie. The image of this woman’s pregnant belly may show that their women who are impregnated in the neighborhood is a common thing. Or this could show what’s to come later in the movie. Then the picture of the vicious dog being held back on a chained leash may go to show that there are violent dogs/ animals in the area. Which could also show that the neighborhood might be a bad area. The film does not do a good job at establishing a feeling of horror from the outset. Everything at the start of the film seems normal and doesn’t include any scary images besides the dog being held back by its owner on a chained leash. Strategies used to ensure that the film appealed to the target audience are the characters. Considering the two-characters shown in the opening sequence are adults who look like they might be in their twenties. When editing some of the images to have color and other to show in black and white this helped placed emphasis on certain images that were in black and white. Helping the audience realize that there is more meaning behind the picture in black and white.
