Genre Research: Horror and Action
In my first PowerPoint I cover the conventions seen in action. In this PowerPoint I listed the common lighting in drama, low key lighting, along with a picture. Next I listed the common camera angle seen in drama, canted/ dutch angle, with a picture example. Then I stated the common mis-en-scenes in drama, costumes and makeup, with 3 photos as examples. Then I included two movie posters as examples of action movies. Then I included a list of all the elements in drama. Then I stated what elements of drama I liked and did not like.
In my second PowerPoint I covered the conventions seen in horror. In my PowerPoint I stated the common camera angle seen in horror, low angle, plus an example. Next I stated the common camera shot in horror, establishing shot, with an example. Then I stated the common camera movement, tracking shot. Afterwards, I listed the common CLAMPS seen in horror films like clown costumes, low key lighting, bloody makeup, and props like knives. I also included images from google as examples. Then I stated common editing in horror, smash cut, along with an example. Then I listed two horror movie examples, “The Conjuring” and “In The Tall Grass”. Then I stated the common sound, diegetic sound, in horror. After I listed the elements found in the genre horror like, plot twists, villains, and more. Lastly I stated what elements of horror appealed to me and what elements did not.
I created these two PowerPoints to get a better understanding of what would be expected from my final task depending on what genre I choose. This project helped me gain a better understanding of things like common CLAMPS in action and horror. But also helped me notice things that I would never really pay attention to before like common camera angles.
